The new energy future

Shell's solution for a low-carbon energy future will be powered by advanced technology. New sources of oil and natural gas will be sought and existing resources squeezed. Natural gas is the fastest, cheapest way to cut CO2 emissions while meeting our energy needs. From 2012, Shell will produce more natural gas than oil.

We are working to increase the sustainability of today's biofuels and investing in the development of advanced low-carbon biofuels for transport. Shell's fuels and lubricants help drivers go further on less and Shell asphalt is mixed at lower temperatures so that roads can be built using less energy and with fewer CO2 emissions.

We have also taken firm steps towards major carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects, including demonstration projects. In our own operations, we are improving energy efficiency so as to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

With our customers and partners, Shell is helping to secure the new energy future.
