SES Session 2: Energy for Smart Communities



    • Mr Hiroshi Asahi shares examples of key policies and incentives that Japan has put in place to promote the development of smart communities. The Director-General for Energy and Environmental Policy at Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), was in town to speak at the Singapore Energy Summit Session 2.
    • Mr Dick Benschop, President-Director of Shell Netherlands and VP Gas Market Development, believes there is a role for gas in the development of smart communities.
    • Suzlon Energy's Independent Director, Mr Girish Tanti, talks about advancements in wind and wind forecasting technologies leading to smarter, more reliable grids ahead.
    • BMW's Head of Steering Governmental Affairs, Mr Glenn Schmidt, focuses on the smart mobility sector, introducing the BMW i3 and i8 concept vehicles.
    • GE Energy's Global Director of Smart Grid Technical Solutions, Dr Bartosz Wojszczyk, gives an overall picture on the role of smart grids in the development of smart communities.
    • Bloomberg New Energy Finance CEO Michael Liebreich explains how we can finance the move towards smarter energy communities.
    • Moderator Dr Elspeth Thomson from Energy Studies Institute challenges panelists to reflect on whether smart communities are truly the answer to sustainable development.
    • BMW's Mr Schmidt and GE Energy's Dr Bartosz Wojszczyk discussing the interplay between smart grids and electric vehicles.
